George Karl And DeMarcus Cousins Exchange Long Handshake

ESPN

While it wasn’t exactly a warm greeting, Sacramento Kings coach George Karl and center DeMarcus Cousins shared a handshake Monday at the NBA summer league.

As Karl approached Cousins at the summer league, Cousins shook the coach’s hand, put his head down, and then got up from his chair and started looking away.

It’s no secret that the relationship between the two is strained, as it was widely reported that Karl wanted to trade Cousins but neither Kings owner Vivek Ranadive nor VP of basketball operations Vlade Divac would sign off on the deal.

Good old George Karl. Ruining relationships with star players, being called a snake on social media, and somehow smiling thinking it’s all gonna work out. Hey George, ever take a class in body language? DeMarcus was not happy to see you. Maybe stop spending literally all your time on the phone trying to trade him and he might like you.

Also I’m not an NBA coach, but I feel like it’s not a great strategy to trade your 24-year-old center who has averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds in his career. Maybe Karl should be doing the opposite of that?

P.S- That handshake reminded me of when you’re not sure if you should go just handshake or full on handshake/hug combo with you’re step-uncle. Always a tough call.

Double P.S- Changed my mind, don’t think Karl needs Cousins anymore. Look at this guy, practically ready to throw on a uniform and play the 5.
