ESPN Reports Bachelorette Winner Before West Coast Airing Ends

Not having his more famous brother take part in the show apparently didn’t hurt Jordan Rodgers’ chances on ABC’s “The Bachelorette.”

JoJo Fletcher picked the “former pro quarterback,” as he’s been identified on the show throughout the season, as the winning suitor during the season finale Monday night.

Rodgers proposed to Fletcher on a beach in Thailand.

“I love you so much,” Rodgers said. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Fletcher said yes.

Rodgers, the 27-year-old younger brother of Green Bay Packers quarterback and two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, never played in an NFL regular-season game but had brief tours of duty with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Not everyone who watches The Bachelorette is a sports fan. And not every sports fan watches The Bachelorette. But damnit if I could draw out a Venn Diagram right now I think there’d be more overlap than people wanna admit. Also I miss venn diagrams, those things were cool.

So why did ESPN do it? Was it poor journalistic standards? A lazy intern who needed another NFL headline? Eh, let’s go with a conspiracy. Maybe they did it to spite Jordan. Think about it. Aaron Rodgers is a huge NFL star who makes ESPN a lot of money. They’re on his side in this feud. So they figured they’d drop the news a little early and make Jordan look like a fool. It’s a classic petty move. I’m sure Aaron is yucking it up with some ESPN execs right this moment.

Or maybe the WorldWide Leader is just that stupid. Assuming fans of sport can’t be Bachelorette watchers too? That one can’t enjoy watching a grown man barrel another into a turf on one screen while Jordan Rodgers pushes JoJo up against a wall on the other? I don’t want to say ESPN has a sexism issue. But let’s just say the title of their article focuses more on glory and fame than it does on the girl.

Just imagine if your buddy spoiled the end of The Sixth Sense or someone told you who won the Super Bowl before you watched it on DVR a week later. You’d instantly end that friendship. So I think West Coast Bachelorette fans may need another sports news outlet. It’s hard to build back trust after a gaffe like that. Just like it’s hard for JoJo to trust any of the guys because all they want is fame.
